Before we got hold of Les Blank's films, we asked the great Old Time fiddler Bruce Molsky what he thought about them. Not only did he give them his highest possible recommendation, but he told us that Tommy Jarrell, the subject of this film, had been his teacher. It's a truly beautiful film about Appalachian culture and in place of the tooth-pulling of Spend it All you get a great story involving a painful corn and a chisel. After the screening Side Café is organising another appropriately themed live music night with Beverley Smith and Carl Jones, an American traditional music duo who have also, coincidentally (or not) worked with Bruce Molsky.
