For Murray

As we move towards the anniversary of Murray Martin's death last year, we've put together a short season. A celebration of a filmmaker who loved films, it features two of his all-time favourites and two of the Amber films which were particularly close to his heart. From 22nd July, as the season ends, we'll be putting together an exhibition in Side Gallery which celebrates his extraordinary engagement with photography. He was a founder member and the key visionary in setting up Amber film and photography collective and taking it forward. His cultural legacy in the North East of England is unmatched. On Saturday 16 August there will be a day of celebration at Side Gallery (2pm to 9.30pm) with Side Cinema preview screenings of The Pursuit of Happiness (2.30pm, 5pm and 7pm) - Amber's latest and Murray's last film. It began as a documentary about the Coulsons, a horsey family in Craghead, County Durham, and has become an exploration of a filmmaker who became part of the world he documented.

For Murray runs from 3rd July 2008 until 16th August 2008
