The One That Got Away

This is the original artwork for sequences from the animated film THE ONE THAT GOT AWAY, a project Amber worked on, but never finished in the 1980s The film is based on a story by Tom Hadaway, who worked closely with Amber and wrote screenplays for The Filleting Machine, Seacoal, In Fading Light and for some of the episodes of Shields Stories. The artwork by the illustrator Angus McKie, who had a desk in the Amber workshop at the time. Within Amber, the project was very much associated with Peter Roberts, who was an animator when he joined, bringing A Film with him and making Jellyfish in the early days of the collective. Some of the imagery draws on photographs in Sirkka-Liisa Konttinen’s Byker.
