Year 4 pupils from Hylton Castle Primary School worked on a video and photography project, setting out on a journey to discover and document Sunderland’s shipbuilding heritage in an inspiring film & photography project. It began with the song Sunderland Oak, written by the North East traditional musician Johnny Handle, who took part in the project, as did Sunderland Maritime Heritage Centre, Sunderland Museum and Winter Gardens, South Hylton Local History Society, Pallion Engineering and Liebherr Cranes.
Support for the project came from the Heritage Lottery Fund, Struan Foundation and, through Hylton Castle Primary, Cultural Spring and Big Lottery.
